Woodland Stitch Pattern – Feb 2018 Mish Mash CKAL

Woodland Stitch This month’s square is a texture square. It is the start of the easy to hard squares. By the time this year finishes you will have made squares that contain texture, color work, lace, cables, & a few other things! I promise I will make it 100% easy for you to understand.

This month’s square is a simple textured square. This is a simple square of knits & purls. If you do not know how to knit then I suggest going to knittinghelp.com or go to youtube.

I am able to answer any questions you have about this pattern. Feel free to email me at tigerwhispers@gmail.com or contacting me via Ravelry (username: Hev).

You can download this wonderful pattern at my ravelry store {Woodland Stitch}.

May I introduce you to Woodland Stitch Square:

Gauge Swatch:

  • 4st & 6 rows equal 1in in worsted weight yarn with a US 8 (5.00mm)

Materials:

  • Worsted weight yarn
  • US 8 5.00mm or needle to produce gauge.
  • 2 diferent color sitch markers

Notes:

  • Instead of staring out with a complete garter stitch square I ftgured I would take you into the knit & purl right away. This is a complete textured square with no holes or cables. Just knits & purls.
  • This is one of those stitches that you will actually work on the wrong side of the fabric. All the design work is there not on the right side like normal stitches. So it will look “wrong” for a litle bit till the pattern starts to emerge.

Instructions:
Cast on 36 stitches I used long tail {http://www.knittinghelp.com/video/play/long-tail-cast-on}, but feel free to use your choice of cast on.

Row 1 (RS): Slip first stitch with yarn in front as if to purl. Knit 3, place stitch marker, Knit 28, place stitch marker, knit 3, with yarn in front slip the last stitch purl-wise.

Row 2 (WS): Knit first stitch through the back loop, knit the rest of the way across
including the last stitch.

Row 3 & 4: Repeat rows 1 & 2 slipping the markers as you come to them.

From now on the first & last stitch will be treated as thus & no longer mentioned in the pattern:
RS: slip first stitch purl-wise with yarn in front, complete pattern till last stitch. With yarn in front slip the last stitch purl-wise.
WS: knit first stitch through the back loop, complete pattern till last stitch. Knit the last stitch as you normally would knit a stitch.
This will create a smooth edge that you will use to join the squares later.

Row 5 (RS): Knit across

Row 6 (WS): K3, sm, *P1 K3* repeat across to maker, sm, K3

Row 7 (RS): Knit across

Row 8 (WS): K3, sm, *P1 K3* repeat across to maker, sm, K3

Row 9 (RS): Knit Across

Row 10 (WS): K3, sm, K2, *P1 K3*, ending with P1 K1, sm, K3

Row 11 (RS): Knit Across

Row 12 (WS): K3, sm, K2, *P1 K3*, ending with P1 K1, sm, K3

Repeat rows 5 -12 until you have 8.5in from the start of the pattern. Then repeat rows 1 – 4 once & then bind off using your choice of bind off. I normally use a basic knitting bind off {http://www.knittinghelp.com/videos/binding-off} the first video for a square like this. Just do your best to keep your tension even.
